Innolux and AUO Expand Micro LED Production as Mass Production Technology Advances
2025/02/12 | By Andrew HsuAs Micro LED technology matures, Innolux Corporation and AUO Corporation are accelerating their production capacity, paving the way for the next generation of display innovation.
AUO, following the successful mass production of Micro LED smartwatches, has established the world's highest-generation 4.5-generation Micro LED production line, which is slated to enter mass production in 2025. Meanwhile, Innolux has integrated Micro LED manufacturing into its 3.5-generation low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) production line, with the capability to expand to a 6th-generation line in the future. This technological shift is expected to drive a new wave of business growth in the display sector.
Micro LED is widely regarded as the mainstream technology for next-generation displays, thanks to its inorganic material composition and simplified structure, which enable low power consumption, high brightness, superior color saturation, and minimal reflection. Additionally, its flexibility, ultra-fast response time, and extended lifespan make it a highly efficient and sustainable solution. Compared to traditional LCDs, Micro LED consumes only one-tenth of the power, and half that of OLEDs, aligning with the global push toward energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
